The form of this German piece is that of a bottle that flares slightly from its top edge to the bottom. It is approximately 5 ˝" tall and 3 ˝" at the widest point on the bottom. It is truly an elegant and ancient looking form. It could easily be taken for something BC. Reinforcing this ancient form is a lava glaze which is a dark turquoise with a bit of brown, also ancient looking. It can be mistaken for old weathered copper.

It is estimated the piece was made sometime in the 1950s to the 1960s. It is in mint condition with no nicks, crazing or cracks. It feels substantial and almost hefty in the hand. It is fairly heavy for a piece of its size. The bottom is signed as is illustrated.  The photos do the piece justice as it is a very strong form and has an almost aggressive feeling.

Because this ‘bottle’ has such a strong presence, as so much stoneware does, it would do well in any environment, from gallery to residence. There is a timeless quality to it that will withstand generations, probably the most important attribute of fine art.
