This is an unusually beautiful handmade bowl believed to be from the 1960's. The colors are amazing, featuring shades of blues, greens and browns with maroon and black. It is finished with a high-gloss glaze.
The piece is signed on the bottom by 'N. Dungan.' It is slightly over 4 ½" in length, 3 ¾" wide and about 2" tall. It is oval in form. Though relatively small in nature, it commands attention because of its spontaneous colors and glazing. The piece has one ‘flea-bite’ on the rim which frankly I have problems finding most of the time. It has no effect on the appearance of the piece. I doubt that you can find it.
The bowl could be used in a utilitarian manner for holding small items of food, but does best when displayed on its own, and better in a collection or gallery. It is truly a distinguished piece of pottery, not abstract except in the selection of glazes. In this way, it is random in design that lends a freshness to it that does not grow old.
