This gorgeous Raku bowl is almost four and a half inches in diameter. It is an extraordinarily deep turquoise color covered with a glossy glaze. The piece was hand thrown and formed on the wheel. It was not cast. The photograph is close, but really doesn’t totally capture its wonderful deep color.
The piece was made by David Holmes Ceramics of Orkney. His works sell for very high prices in retail galleries. The crazing is beautifully captured in the photo and is one of the outstanding features of the piece. It has a ‘fast’ flare, and sits on a small but stable foot with a dark matte color and texture. This piece is really a show stopper and commands attention wherever it is placed.
The piece would be at home in any professional gallery or museum setting. It is an unusual find.
