This is a very unusual opportunity to own one of the most intriguing, abstract works by master potter Sue Hara. At first glance this piece takes your breath away with its startling form and use of abstract extrusions that lift the bowl in the air. The abstract placement of the two colors, a result of the firing, is also truly original and is another element that adds to the distinction of the work.

The piece is almost 7" in height and 7" in diameter, and weighs two pounds three ounces. This is a very substantial piece. A bowl has been thrown that is very smooth to the touch, turquoise in color. It is then lifted into the air by totally abstract extrusions that twist, wind, and meander up the bowls edge. On one side the appearance of a ‘handle’ can be imagined.

The bowl’s extrusions triangulate downward to form a substantial base on which it firmly sits. I have never seen a bowl that has had such an imaginative and abstract approach to its placement. In some ways the piece is extremely primitive and roughly executed in nature, and in other ways it is incredibly sophisticated. The combination of these characteristics brings about an effect that will cause one to sit for hours analyzing the effect.

It is truly ‘one of a kind’, and any museum or gallery would be envious to have it. In a home it would only function as part of a very sophisticated collection or would need substantial space for display. It will be the focus of attention and envy.

One must act fast to obtain this work of art, and handle it with great care if owned.
