JAY STROMMEN

Jay Strommen is my first listing for several reasons. He is an important emerging artist whose work is quickly becoming more prominent each day.  He has worked with some of the masters of our century:  Peter Voulkos, Xavier Toubes, Bill Farrell, Don Rietz and Mark Jaramillo. He has held an apprenticeship under Master Potters Barbara and David Hoggatt. He has also worked with masters of this art in Japan and Italy.

Mr. Strommen holds a Master of Fine Arts from the Art Institute of Chicago and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of South Florida.

His list of invitations to show in exhibitions is far too long to list here, but they are available if desired. Included are many in Europe and Asia. Many of these are Solo Exhibitions in prominent galleries and museums. His work also includes a prolific amount of paintings and drawings that are sold as soon as they are produced. His philosophy is that this discipline is vital to the development of his impressive work in clay.

One distinct aspect of his work that will be immediately observed is the two tracks in which he travels and the resulting combination of the two. The production of his works in a minimalist style is startlingly exacting, in total contrast to the powerful abstract expressionist work that he produces with equal vitality and with a freshness missing in the clay world at this time. He would not approve of these labels, but it is a shortcut that the observer can understand. He does not like to be pinned down with labels.

I only represent here his clay work because of the scope of this site, but the drawings and paintings are readily available for the interested client. I must also point out that most of the works represented here are already sold or belong to private and public collections and galleries. He is officially represented by Perimeter Galleries in Chicago. My listing of these examples of his work is meant to reach beyond that particular area. Perimeter Galleries remain his official representation.

To quell the anxiety of those of you that decide you cannot live without a particular work that is not available, he has the uncanny ability to reproduce those specific pieces. He accepts this as a challenging discipline and is more than happy to do it.

You will find in my various categories of works a large representation of his work. It is my hope that the serious collector will share the enthusiasm that is quickly spreading throughout the art world. These pieces are very important now and will become more so as time quickly passes by. They are wise investments for a serious collector or for the lay person that is simply drawn to a specific work.
