ROBERT PULLEY
Robert Pulley has a Master’s Degree in Sculpture and Ceramics from Ball State University. He has maintained a studio and pursued ceramics and sculpture since 1971. His work is in private and public collections throughout the country.
Mr. Pulley grew up in the American Midwest where frequent solitary walks in the woods and along creeks and rivers of rural Indiana etched strong impressions into his memory of the varied forms, colors and textures around him. Evidence of the effects of time were everywhere in the rock strata, glacial till, ancient trees and aboriginal artifacts. There he found a sense of wonder that embraced the cycles of coming and going, change and chance.
Mr. Pulley produces sculptures in ceramics and bronze. His ceramic sculptures are our concentration in this gallery. He produces natural appearing stone sculptures which are table size as well as both garden and monolithic in scope. His sculptures appear to have been formed over a period of centuries and they are breath-taking upon first exposure. The "garden size" pieces can stand up to six feet tall. They cover a massive number of forms, each completely different from the other, as if he has reinvented himself each time. Only photography can give one an idea of what his pieces do to the onlooker. They are truly startling upon first exposure. I know of no one in the country who turns out work of this nature. Fortunately, there is a good representative piece on the site that gives one a true example of his creativity.
The list of museums and prominent collections that represent his work is long. Highlights of that list include:
Wright State University Museum of Art, Ohio
Canton Art Institute, Ohio
McDonald's Corporation, Illinois
Kaiser Permanente, New Mexico
Greater Lafayette Museum of Art, Indiana
Competitive Advantage Consultants, Florida
The list of private collectors is distinguished.
